About this Event
Humans have been trying to explain how the world works for as long as we've been around. In the absence of science, we have tried to understand both the joys and the tragedies of life through the influence of supernatural creatures. Halloween itself has its roots in Samhain, an ancient Irish festival marking the end of harvest, and the day when the veil between the human world and the Otherworld is at its thinnest.
In this session, we will be practicing our creative muscle by drawing or painting the supernatural creatures which have captivated the human imagination for so long. The creature can be a favourite of yours, or one from your own imagination. It could be fun to do some research into mythical worlds you like and discover the monsters lurking in their shadows. From the Lamia, the snake-woman of Greek myth, to the kitsune, the fox spirits of Japanese folklore, the world is quite literally your oyster. Have a look, and come prepared to add a page in the book of human mythos.
As usual, I will be providing some references, but feel free to bring your own. If you'd like a reference printed, email it to [email protected] and I will have it ready for you.
We will be waiting in the common area of Kirkgate Centre for 10 minutes, after which we will head to the Callard room.
Tea, coffee, and biscuits will be available.
I look forward to seeing you!
