On race day, you are treated to a start on the iconic George Washington Bridge, the world’s busiest bridge, which gets closed to traffic especially for GFNY to provide you a once-in-a-lifetime experience. At dawn, GFNY cyclists take their places in their start corrals. The sunrise reveals the skyline of New York City to the south, and the picturesque and historic Hudson Valley to the north. The course takes you through the historic Palisades and up Route 9W. After the initial 10 miles in northern New Jersey, you continue cycling north in New York State along tree lined roads, rolling hills, and speedy flats, at times so close to the banks of the historic Hudson river that you can reach out and touch it.
The climbing begins in earnest at Mott Farm Road. Gate Hill and Cheesecote are the named ones but there are several others. Winding through picturesque Rockland County you will then get back to the Palisades. With two miles to go tackle the final climb to the finish line in Fort Lee.
