Dance & Movement sessions to help you feel more comfortable with your bodies! No prior experience needed. Donation based.
About this Event

https://youtube.com/shorts/CSzgmwzqTmg?feature=share

Take your chance and join the Get to Move Together sessions.
For this session, you will be guided through activities to help you release whatever no longer serves you.
AND we will revisit the famous Black American/African-American concept and practice of .

Expect a playlist with soul, jazz, rnb, rap, disco... from the USA.

During a 1,5 hour movement and dance gathering, you explore how you feel and how you can/desire to move. No steps or choreography to learn or execute.
A few easy-to-practice exercises support your individual abilities and expression.
REMEMBER, IT'S NOT A DANCE CLASS! We focus on the process and how it feels.

Each session is unique and enhanced by a curated music playlist.

It's donation-based. Please consider the following when getting your ticket:
- the money collected serves to pay for the studio rental and to acknowledge the time, energy, and knowledge shared.
- if the amount collected is not enough, I won't be able to offer other sessions.
- You may complete your donation on the gathering day. Please review .

EVERY-BODY* is welcome! (*Please see the FAQ for accessibility details.)
Somewhere around €10 allows creating a sustainable environment and organise further gatherings.

Donation is also possible in cash, on the session day.

The sessions are rooted in African/West-African teaching philosophies. (More about it in the video below).
People of African descent are particularly invited to participate.
There's no such thing as “having the rhythm in the skin”! In many parts of the world, communities have kept a strong connection to dance in their daily lives. An environment that often enables free physical expression and the exploration of various rhythms supports dancers' development. And it's what you are going to experience when you join Get To Move Together.

It's beginner-friendly and perfect for you if, you:

  • don't feel comfortable moving
  • want to explore freedom physically
  • want to learn more on, and with your body
  • have always dreamed of “learning how to dance”
  • don't find yourself in Western conventional ways of “learning to dance”
  • wand to re-connect to your African roots

More about the sessions
We focus on moving, feeling and exploring. So, very few explanations will be given at the beginning and during the session. It will happen at the end, with a dedicated time for questions as well.
I start the session as soon as someone joins me in the studio. You may arrive at any time (even 15 minutes before the end!); no one is late.

It means that whenever you arrive, don't be shy and join the vibe.

It's not for you if you:
need to be directed to move or want to learn a choreography or steps.

More about the host

As the facilitator, my role is to encourage the participants' expression.

This movement practice finds its roots mainly in West-African (Akan, Yoruba) ancestral knowledge and African contemporary dances and movement-based rituals. It is also accompanied by knowledge and rhythms from the African diaspora in Abya Yala (Cuba, Colombia, Guadeloupe).
The pedagogy, exercises and perspectives offered are all coming from and/or inspired by African and Afro-diasporic sciences, know-how and teachings.

I'm a creative, researcher, and spiritualist with roots in Côte d'Ivoire and France. I work at the intersection of several disciplines and research the shared heritage between people of African descent and African people. It's a pleasure for me to share knowledge through various practices. You may find more about my work on Instagram @c.a.ml.k or my website www.caml-k.com.
