Short conversations, one good book, and a room full of people who'd rather meet in person.

Here's the idea: you bring a book. So does everyone else. Then you sit down across from someone new and start there.

Up Up Books is hosting a speed dating evening for lesbian and queer women and non-binary individuals. You'll have around 15, five-minute conversations. They start with books and from there you can ask questions you're curious about or pick a card from the question deck that's on every table.

Some people come for a date. Some come for a friend. Some come because they miss meeting people without a screen in the way. All of it counts.

HOW THE NIGHT WORKS

• Check in, grab a drink, and look around the shelves
• We'll walk everyone through it before we start
• Fifteen short chats with a break in the middle
• After each one, you quietly mark whether you'd like to see that person again, as a date, a friend, or not this time
• The next day, we email you your mutual matches
• No awkward goodbyes

• A book you read recently that you can't stop talking about or your favorite spooky read

WHO'S IT FOR

• Women, 35 to 48. We group by life stage so conversations come easily, but it's a guide, not a rule, and you know what's best for you
