We're proud to welcome Geoffrey Gersten to Gallery MAR for his first show with us. His studio smells like oil paint and nostalgia. Matchbooks, bottle caps, vintage toys, and torn advertising ephemera line every surface, remnants of a mid-20th-century world that most people have forgotten and Gersten refuses to let go.
Working in oil on large-format canvases, he elevates these once-ordinary objects to something close to monumental, rendering them with a precision that borders on photorealistic. Step forward and the paint asserts itself as unmistakably made by hand.
It's a tightrope Gersten walks with confidence: classical technique in service of deeply personal subject matter. “New Works” brings together his latest paintings, each one a celebration of life's timeless pleasures and treasures, rendered with an ever-fresh spirit that makes the past feel startlingly alive.
