About this Event
The Generic Instructor Course (GIC) trains future instructors in the principles of adult learning. These skills can be used to teach RCUK courses.
The GIC is a standardised national course teaching the principles of adult learning and is a joint collaboration between the Resuscitation Council (UK) and the Advanced Life Support Group (ALSG). A revised course including an e-learning component was launched in 2025.
Learning Outcomes:
The GIC teaches the knowledge and skills required to:
- Understand the nature of teaching and learning.
- Understand the needs of individual learners.
- Understand the awareness of the four domains of learning.
- Undertake the various types of teaching sessions on the provider courses.
Who is eligible to attend this course?
Only candidates who have been recommended as having instructor potential (IP) from their provider course (e.g. ALS, NLS, APLS, EPALS) can attend the GIC. The GIC must be undertaken within four years from the date of the provider course.

Course Cancellation Policy
ยท Cancellations must be made at least 30 days prior to the course start date to be eligible for a refund or transfer. If you have already received your manual for the course, this fee will be deducted from the refund.
- Cancellations made within 30 days of the course date are not eligible for a refund or transfer, except in exceptional circumstances and at the discretion of the course administrator.
- Transfers to a future course may be considered on a case-by-case basis and may be subject to a transfer fee.
- Non-attendance without prior notice will result in forfeiture of the course fee.
- Should the course be cancelled by the centre, either a refund or alternative date will be provided.
- This policy is applicable to both internal and external candidates of Chelsea and Westminster NHS Trust
