Slideshow and talk by Don Sherblom in the Flemington Grange Building at the Hu terdon Cou ty Fairgrounds in Ringoes followed by a re-enactment of the Skirmish at Geary's Ridge. On December 14, 1776, five days after Washington escaped across the Delaware in boats collected by Thomas Jones etc. (after defeats around NYC and retreat across NJ) the New Jersey militia finally became actIve in repulsing the British and Hessians. The FlemIngton Raid and Ambush at Geary's Ridge was one of the first examples of what David Hackett Fisher calls the Hunterdon Uprising that facilitated Washington's surprise attack at Trenton the day after Christmas, 1776 which resulted in the capture of 900 Hessians, the start of the Ten Crucial Days that, by early 1777, had reversed the course of the rebellion.
