Lørdag den 8. og søndag den 9. august fejrer vi World Baijiu Day på Bankeråt. To dage, fordi datoen er et ordspil: otte og ni udtales "ba" og "jiu" på mandarin. Vi kører fra vi åbner til vi lukker, begge dage.Baijiu (udtales "bye joe", betyder "hvid spiritus") er den mest drukne spiritus på kloden. Omkring en tredjedel af al hård spiritus i verden er baijiu, og alligevel har næsten ingen uden for Kina smagt den. Over 60 byer fejrer dagen. Vi tager en dag ekstra.
Vi skænker Ming River fra Luzhou Laojiao i Sichuan, Kinas ældste destilleri i drift. Rød sorghum, gæret i jordgruber, destilleret i traditionel kinesisk pot still, lagret i op til to år. Ananas, anis, pink peber og en lang, jordet finish. 45%.

"Ganbei" betyder "tør glasset", bunden i vejret. Sådan drikker man baijiu i Kina. World Baijiu Days eget tema hedder til gengæld "beyond ganbei" og handler om at bruge den i cocktails. Med to dage når vi begge dele.

Saturday 8 and Sunday 9 August we're celebrating World Baijiu Day at Bankeråt. Two days, because the date is a pun: eight and nine are "ba" and "jiu" in Mandarin. Open to close, both days.
Baijiu (pronounced "bye joe", literally "white spirit") is the most-consumed spirit on the planet. Around a third of the world's hard liquor is baijiu, and almost nobody outside China has tasted it. More than 60 cities mark the day. We're taking an extra one.
We're pouring Ming River from Luzhou Laojiao in Sichuan, China's oldest continuously operating distillery. Red sorghum, fermented in earthen pits, distilled in a traditional Chinese pot still, aged up to two years. Pineapple, anise, pink peppercorn, long earthy finish. 45%.

"Ganbei" means "dry the glass", bottoms up. That's how China drinks baijiu. World Baijiu Day's own theme, on the other hand, is "beyond ganbei": put it in a cocktail. Two days means we get to do both.
