About this Event
This workshop is aimed to introduce people to the fundamentals of programming through the C# language.
This workshop is meant for those who have taken the first workshop or have a basic understanding of programming already. Such as an understanding of variables, conditionals, and operators.
Here we will be learning about loops, functions, arrays, and classes! We will put these skills to the test by creating a little text-based card collecting game. Participants can choose to team up or take on the challenge solo! In the second half of the session, we will be going through some of the games everyone has made!
This workshop is precursor to potential future workshops along the same series. Eventually leading to more advanced concepts and game development in Unity.
This session allows youths to:
- Think independently of trends. Learning the C# programming language from the ground up helps participants rely not on the use of AI to complete programming work, but to think for themselves. With the rise of the trend of using AI, it is important to still understand the fundamentals of things.
- Define self-worth beyond performance. A game is not defined by how fluent the programmer is in coding, but in the game itself. When making games, participants are taught the way to implement one thing, but like art, programming does not have one definite path to gaining the outcome you desire.
- Start and conduct conversations. Participants are encouraged to ask questions and start conversations regarding the workshop. Ask one another, and the instructor, about things they are unclear about. Even work together as a group to create a fun game for the final session!
