Adriana Poterash
Adriana Poterash is an interdisciplinary artist living and working in Evanston. She was born in Romania, spent her childhood in St Petersburg, and immigrated to the US in her late teens. She received her BS in Chemistry at UIC, an Associate in Fine Arts at Harper College, and her BFA in Studio Arts with a concentration in Painting and Ceramics at SAIC.

Her paintings are a surreal world of uncommon alliances converging into unexpected unions. The collapsing perspectives and deteriorating images revealing hidden layers underneath are meant to reflect the fragility of our physical world and complexity of our memories. Integrating traditional oil painting with phototransfers, 3-D materials, and new media, she achieves a seamless image of altered reality to provoke a thought or an emotional impulse in a viewer.

The materiality of textures makes her paintings truly appreciated in physical viewing vs digital – it has to be a personal experience face-to-face. Most titles are simplified to remove her ego and to allow the viewer freedom to interpret the image according to one’s senses. Experiencing and interpreting the complexity of our synapses through art is one of the most precious human experiences.

Larry Geni | There and Back Again

I have done a lot of traveling since I retired from teaching high school physics and I have taken photos in some pretty interesting places. When I come home from my travels, I choose the pictures that mean the most to me and paint them. The act of painting deepens and anchors my memories of the places I have visited.

But I don’t want to simply recreate the photo when I paint. Instead, I try to see the canvas as a physical thing that I want to make as beautiful as possible, regardless of the subject. So when I start a new piece, I study the photo for a while, then put it away and let my instincts take over. The finished product often looks quite different from the photo it was based on.

My work is driven by my deep love of nature, and by the desire to live, as much as possible, in the present moment. Painting offers a means of liberation from the daily pushes and pulls of life, a way of entering a state of mind that is clear, intentional, and spontaneous. That’s when the good work happens.

Carolyn Potts

Most people know me as a photography marketing consultant, educator, and strategist. But photography is my origin story. I majored in photography in college, and long before I was helping photographers market their work, I was making my own.

In 2007, I shifted from representation to running my own consulting business. But while my professional life remained firmly rooted in photography, my own photography gradually moved into the background.

A couple of years ago, I decided it was time to bring it back.

The response has been incredibly encouraging. My work has been selected for three juried gallery exhibitions: two consecutive years in the 2026 and Vicinity 2025 exhibitions at Perspective Gallery in Evanston and a juried exhibition at the Union League Club of Chicago. In addition, my photographs have been selected for four juried online competitions hosted by professional photography organizations, including APA and ASMP. as well as two APA chapter-curated exhibitions: San Francisco’s Something Personal and with APA Los Angeles.

In the 2026 APA National Awards, my Polaroid Sweeping Up was selected as category. In , Inside Outside was named Judges’ Choice #1 in Fine Art, while Swimmer received Judges’ Choice #2 in Fine Art.

The recognition is gratifying, but what means the most is knowing this deeply personal body of work is connecting with others.
