ABOUT THE PRESENTER
Dona Vella and her family moved to Dayton in 1989 and have been involved in the community ever since. She started her non-profit career in 1997 as the Executive Director of Kids Voting, a position she held for seven years. As the ED of a small non-profit organization, Dona learned quickly that understanding and being proficient in all aspects of development are essential to the success of an organization and her growth as a fundraiser.
Dona has a broad and balanced non-profit background, which encompasses great mission diversity, enhancing her knowledge of development. She has spent more than two decades building and maintaining relationships with board members, donors, elected officials, volunteers, and corollary organizations throughout the region. Because of her time with Kids Voting, Cox Arboretum, The Dayton Art Institute, Learning Tree Farm, Hospice of Dayton, and the Dayton Society of Natural History, she is connected to the community in a comprehensive and meaningful way. Dona has extensive knowledge of annual fund drives and direct mail, membership, grants, major gifts, planned giving, special events large and small, and capital campaigns. Additionally, she is well-versed in marketing and public relations, as well as board and staff training and strategic planning.
Dona began her fundraising consulting business, DONAtions Inc in 2017. Dona lends her experience to non-profits that may not have a development function within their organization or may need help in a specific area or for a specific campaign. She knows the Dayton region well; but, more importantly, she cares deeply for the community. Dona’s sincere desire to see all non-profits be successful is what drives her.
