About this Event
Full Moon Tune Up Sound Session:
What Are You Holding That Is Also Holding You?
What are you holding because you choose to hold it?
And what are you holding simply because you've been holding it for so long that you no longer notice?
This Full Moon Tune-Up Sound Session combines immersive sound and vibration with Return To Witness®, creating an opportunity to experience what happens when we stop trying to analyze ourselves and begin noticing what is actually happening.
You don't need to arrive relaxed. You don't need to clear your mind. And you don't need to know what you need.
Come as you are.
The Full Moon
This October Full Moon illuminates the Taurus–Scorpio axis, an astrological polarity associated with the tangible and the hidden, stability and transformation, holding on and allowing change.
The Moon in Taurus brings attention toward the body, sensation, physical experience, stability and what feels secure. The Sun in Scorpio draws attention beneath the surface toward vulnerability, attachment, trust, control and what may remain unspoken.
Adding intensity, Pluto in Aquarius forms a challenging configuration with the Sun and Moon, creating a fixed-sign tension around pressure, resistance and change. And with Venus retrograde at the final degree of Libra, questions involving relationship, reciprocity, values, giving and receiving become part of the symbolic landscape.
Astrology doesn't tell us what we're experiencing or predict what must happen. For this session, we'll use the Full Moon as an invitation for inquiry:
What am I holding that is also holding me?
Observing Isn't The Same As Witnessing
Many of us are very good at observing ourselves.
I'm stressed.
I'm overthinking again.
I shouldn't have reacted that way.
I really need better boundaries.
But observation can quickly become analysis, evaluation or an attempt to fix what we're experiencing.
Witnessing is different.
Witnessing means remaining present within the experience while noticing what is happening.
You don't have to make the thought disappear. You don't have to change the sensation. You don't have to become calm. You don't even have to understand what you're noticing.
Witness is presence, not distance.
Nothing has to stop happening in order to Witness it.
What Might That Look Like In Real Life?
Imagine you've been saying yes to something for months.
Maybe it's a responsibility at work. A family obligation. A relationship dynamic. You've become the person who handles it.
Then someone asks again.
Before you've really considered the request, you hear yourself say:
“Sure.”
But something else happened too.
Your stomach tightened.
Your jaw set.
Your shoulders rose.
Observing might say:
I'm stressed. I really need to get better at boundaries.
Witnessing stays closer to the actual experience:
My stomach tightened when they asked.
I noticed myself preparing to say yes before I had decided.
There's pressure in my chest.
None of those sensations tells you what you should do. Saying yes isn't automatically wrong. Saying no isn't automatically right.
But now you have information.
And another question becomes possible:
What is actually available to me?
That's where awareness can become agency.
Why Sound?
Sound isn't only something we hear. Sound is physical energy traveling as pressure waves through a medium such as air.
When sound reaches us, the auditory system converts mechanical vibrations into neural signals that the brain processes as sound. Depending on frequency and intensity, vibration can also be experienced physically through the body.
That's one reason an immersive Tune-Up Sound Session can feel very different from simply playing relaxing music in the background.
Crystal singing bowls, gongs and other resonant instruments produce complex combinations of frequencies, harmonics, changing intensities and periods of silence. Quartz also has a genuine physical property called piezoelectricity, meaning mechanical stress can generate electrical charge in quartz and an electrical field can produce mechanical deformation. We don't claim that this property gives crystal bowls a special ability to heal the body. It's simply part of the fascinating physics of quartz.
And while much of the human body is water, we don't need to claim that sound is “healing the water in your cells” to appreciate what is happening.
Your body is encountering sound.
And that gives us something to Witness.
During The Session
You'll lie comfortably while sound moves through the room.
A bowl sounds.
What happens in your body?
The gong builds.
What do you notice as the intensity changes?
A vibration continues.
Do you want it to keep going? Do you want it to stop?
Then the sound disappears.
What happens in the silence?
Perhaps you notice bracing.
Perhaps softness.
Perhaps irritation, pleasure, anticipation, emotion, restlessness, stillness or absolutely nothing you can name.
There is no correct response.
We're not using sound to tell your body what it should do.
We're using sound as an experience through which you can notice what your body actually does.
That is the practice.
Activation → Awareness → Agency → Action.
Something happens.
You notice.
You notice that you're noticing.
And perhaps something becomes available that wasn't available a moment before.
What Are You Holding?
This Full Moon, we're not asking you to make a list of everything you need to release.
We're asking something more interesting:
What happens when you notice what you're holding without immediately trying to let it go?
Because sometimes what we're holding matters.
Sometimes it protects something.
Sometimes we're ready to put it down.
And sometimes we simply haven't realized how much effort holding it requires.
Come experience the sound.
Feel the vibration.
Notice the silence.
Notice yourself noticing.
You Don't Need To Know What You Need.
Start With What You Notice.
Please arrive 10–15 minutes early to settle in. Comfortable clothing is encouraged.
Yoga mats, blankets, eye masks, and bottled water are included.
Reception with tea service and snacks afterwards.
