From The Workshop Presents:
FTW & Friends No.5
The 5th of a brand new original music live session in Sevenoaks, Kent.
4 original local & national acts come together to showcase their songs. Free entry and Bario the Barman will be putting out a spread of sandwiches for the punters too.
Your incredible acts for tonight are:
*From The Workshop* - Your hosts
Indie folk duo making thoughtful, harmony-filled music with heart. Think stripped-back acoustics, a suitcase of influences, and songs that stay with you long after the last note.
*Cherry*
Enter Cherry's eclectic, wild soundscape; a fusion of guitar and
flute from the Canterbury duo which harnesses all the sincerity
of folk-music, with flavours of psychedelia and funk. What
began life as the solo song-writing project of Neil Sullivan (Lapis
Lazuli, Wheels), evolved into a musical partnership when his
girlfriend, Skye, began accompanying him on flute and vocals.
It's this musical conversation, this ebb and flow and sense of
playfulness, that imbues Cherry's sound with untamed magic.
They blend the intricate guitar picking and introspective lyricism
of Nick Drake, with the technicolour vibrancy of a Love album,
combined with the vocal texture reminiscent of R.E.M. From the
rousing flow of 'Oh Why' to the atmospheric mysticism of 'Red
Flag', Cherry lays out a complex, evolving patchwork of nuance
and emotion, which holds a mirror to life's chaotic mix of
fragments and experience; from growing up and relationships,
to social issues, through to finding community and connection to
landscape.
Their debut collaborative album, The Howling Moon, released
this summer, expands upon this multi-faceted journey with all
the energy and vigour of their live performances. Cherry are
currently headed for a UK tour with Swiss band Selveya in
September, with a series of local summer gigs including Herne
Bay Folk Festival.
*Dave Sears & Jules Eccleston*:
Dave Sears and Jules Eccleston blend soulful vocals with thoughtful song writing and rich, textured instrumentation. Drawing on roots in folk, rock and Americana, the duo craft songs that balance raw emotion with melodic sophistication.
Influenced by 60s folk artists such as Bert Jansch and mixing with artists from later decades. Dave's hypnotic guitar work and magnetic pull meets Jules' rolling bass line and driving rhythms, creating a sound that feels both timeless and contemporary. Dave and Jules bring honesty and energy to every performance.
*Ashley Wells*
A heart-on-sleeve troubadour whose honest lyrics and raw energy will have you leaning in for more. With a blend of acoustic folk storytelling and electric indie rock, Ashley can have you intently listening to his soulful lyricism in one moment and up shuffling your feet the next.
Book a table, invite your friends, get the drinks in and enjoy some incredible original music curated by one of Kent's most exciting folk duos.
