This project explores selected French piano repertoire from the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries through aesthetics, expressive language, and tone color as an interpretive goal. It focuses on works by Gabriel Fauré, Claude Debussy, Maurice Ravel, and Francis Poulenc, taken as representative composers of this period. The project also connects these ideas to piano practice and pedagogy, exploring how concepts such as flow, contrast, and sound color inform decisions in articulation, pedaling, phrasing, and touch.Yanjue Lin is a classically trained pianist. She attended the Artist Diploma program at the Frost School of Music at the University of Miami, earned a Doctor of Musical Arts in Piano Performance from Shenandoah University, and a Master of Music in Piano Performance from the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland.
