About this Event
Join the Lawrence National Centre for Policy and Management on Thursday, November 19th for a timely conversation with Ivey Professor Klaus E. Meyer on his new book, From Democracy to Fascism: Hitler's German Citizenship.
Drawing on the case of Braunschweig in the late Weimar Republic, Meyer examines how democratic institutions were weakened not only by extremist actors, but also by the decisions of mainstream political and civic leaders who enabled them, accommodated them, or failed to respond effectively.
The engaging discussion will explore what this history can teach today's leaders about institutional resilience, the risks of political normalization, the conditions under which public trust erodes, and the role of political and civic leadership in safeguarding democratic institutions.
This event is designed for business leaders, policymakers, students, alumni, and members of the broader community interested in a deeper, historically grounded discussion of democracy, public institutions, and the decisions that shape their resilience.
Pizza and refreshments will be served to attendees.
