About this Event
Join us for a symposium highlighting the Brooklyn Health Equity Index (BKHI) and its potential to help healthcare systems better understand and respond to the experiences of the communities they serve. Developed through a collaborative partnership among One Brooklyn Health, SUNY Downstate Health Sciences University, and the Arthur Ashe Institute for Urban Health, the BKHI goes beyond traditional patient experience measures to examine inequities in access, discrimination, provider empathy and cultural humility, staff responsiveness, structural barriers, and social determinants of health.
Featured Keynote
Dr. Balavenkatesh Kanna,
CEO, Vice President of Hospital Affairs
University Hospital at Downstate
The symposium will explore three interconnected areas:
Advancing Health Equity
Use the BKHI to identify inequities, better understand community experiences, strengthen healthcare delivery, and advance more equitable care.
From Opportunity to Impact
Build on existing community partnerships, relationships, and tools to translate BKHI findings into practical, community-driven strategies that address identified inequities.
Building Accountable Healthcare Systems
Create pathways for healthcare systems to listen, respond, and demonstrate meaningful action based on the needs and experiences of the communities they serve.
Through presentations, discussion, and shared learning, the symposium will bring together healthcare leaders, clinicians, researchers, community organizations, advocates, students and other stakeholders to explore how the BKHI tool can serve as a catalyst for action.
Lunch will be provided.
