Join the Quad City Wind Ensemble for From Darkness to Light on Sunday, October 18, at 3:00 PM at the Galvin Fine Arts Center at St. Ambrose University.The concert opens with James Barnes’s monumental Third Symphony “Tragic,” a deeply personal work written following the death of the composer’s infant daughter. Across four movements, the symphony travels through grief, anger, remembrance, and ultimately reconciliation—an intense and powerful beginning to the afternoon.
After intermission, the program turns toward color, imagination, and wit with music by Alfred Reed, Erika Svanoe, Percy Grainger, and Leonard Bernstein. From theatrical energy and haunting atmosphere to lyrical beauty and playful humor, the second half brings the journey fully into the light.
