Join us for a special afternoon of creativity, rhythm, and storytelling with legendary artist and flutemaker Abu.
Inspired by Abu’s lifelong dedication to the art of making instruments by hand, this hands on workshop invites children to explore the creative process of transforming an everyday coffee can into their very own bongo style drum.
Under Abu’s guidance, young makers will learn about the process of creating a handmade drum while using their imagination to personalize and decorate their own instrument. After the drum making is complete, participants will have the opportunity to explore rhythm and make music together.
This workshop is more than just making a drum. It is an opportunity for children to connect with an elder artist, experience the joy of creating something with their own hands, and learn how everyday materials can be transformed into something meaningful.
Abu has been celebrated through the Abu the Flutemaker exhibition at Gallery Reimagined, highlighting his remarkable artistic journey and dedication to the craft of handmade instruments. This workshop gives young artists an opportunity to experience that creative spirit firsthand.
