About this Event
About the seminar:
International students are often understood through isolated challenges such as financial hardship, housing insecurity, or mental health concerns. This colloquium shifts the focus from individual resilience toward the governing logics that produce and sustain precarity, examining how legal, economic, and social forms of insecurity intersect in the lives of international students. Drawing on research with international students in BC, it offers a new framework for conceptualizing precarity and explores its implications for higher education policy and practice.
About the speaker:
Dr. Gloria Lin is a Postdoctoral Fellow in the School of Public Policy and a Research Associate at the Cassidy Centre for Educational Justice at Simon Fraser University. Her research examines how immigration, education, and labour policies produce multidimensional precarity for international students in Canada. She is currently part of the Understanding Precarity in BC (UP-BC) research initiative investigating insecurity and inequality across British Columbia.
