A Spring Retreat for Rekindling Our Relationship with the Living World
Earthwise Residency, Mols Bjerge National Park, Denmark
With Sófía Stefánsdóttir & Helena Karhu
An invitation to reconnect
In Denmark's beautiful Mols Bjerge, among the soft rolling hills, the wild woodlands and the grasslands resting under the watch of old junipers, with the sea nearby, we gather for five days of slowing down, opening our senses and listening to the living world.
Our retreat home is Earthwise Residency, a secluded place surrounded by hills, roaming horses, and permaculture gardens.
Here, we make space to remember something that is already part of us: our capacity to live in relationship with the Earth and all her living beings.
Through movement, meditation, ritual and practices of deep attention, we explore ways of listening and relating with the natural world that have been part of human life for millennia.
Throughout the retreat, we spend time outdoors, both together and alone, discovering the places, beings and presences we naturally feel drawn towards. Trees, stones, plants, birds, animals and the unseen may all become companions and teachers along the way.
This retreat is supported by Earthwise, whose work is rooted in ecological care, community and our shared responsibility for the living Earth.
Words from previous participants:
“Five days in the nature retreat made my soul rest and my heart sing. My warmest recommendation to Helena’s and Sofia’s retreat — which was just what I needed after a stressful time in my life. Beautiful nature, lovely company, great teachings and wonderful food. Nourishment for my spirit.”
— Danish participant, March 2026
“Helena and Sofia hold space with such sensitivity for all the participants and everyone's individual and collective processes. I felt safe, nurtured and connected in a way I have not experienced before.” — Finnish participant, March 2026
“For me, it is very different to intellectually know that I am part of nature, than to embody that knowledge and really feel in my bones and in my body, that I belong and am part of this bigger whole. I learned very embodied wisdom on this retreat.”
— Finnish participant, March 2026
Retreat Programme
Our days follow a gentle rhythm, with time for guided practice, shared exploration, rest and your own encounters with the living world.
Tuesday – Arrival
We arrive in the afternoon, settle into Earthwise and meet for our opening circle, followed by dinner and an opening ceremony.
Wednesday–Saturday – Retreat Days
Each morning begins with gentle yoga, movement and meditation, followed by breakfast and a morning circle or guided practice.
Throughout the days, we explore gratitude, reciprocity, deep listening and relationship with the living world.
Our practices include shamanic journeys, meditation, field practices in the surrounding landscape, solo exploration, Yoga Nidra, ceremony and an optional evening drumming circle.
There is generous time each afternoon for rest, wandering, reflection or simply being with the place.
Sunday – Integration & Departure
Our final morning begins with gentle movement and meditation, followed by breakfast and a closing circle.
We reflect on how to carry our experiences and practices of relationship into everyday life.
Departure around noon.
The programme may shift in response to the weather, the place and the unfolding needs of the group.
Your Retreat Guides
We are Sófía from Iceland, and Helena from Finland.
We have been friends and companions in shamanic practice for many years, sharing a deep interest in the wisdom of the living world and the ways we humans can cultivate our relationship with it.
Our different backgrounds and experiences complement one another, bringing together anthropology, yoga, ritual arts, folklore and shamanic traditions.
We look forward to welcoming an international circle of participants.
The retreat will be guided in English. Between us, we also speak fluent: Danish, Finnish, Icelandic and Spanish.
Sófía Stefánsdóttir
Sófía is an Icelandic-born anthropologist, yoga teacher and ritualist living in Denmark.
Her work explores how movement, meditation, ritual and practices of deep listening can help us rediscover our relationship with the living world.
She has practised yoga since her early years and studied shamanic traditions and ritual practices for many years, alongside formal training in yoga, meditation, breathwork and healing arts.
With a Master's degree in Anthropology and BA in Spanish from the University of Copenhagen, her approach is also informed by a lifelong curiosity about the diverse ways humans perceive and relate to the world around them.
Through yoga, drum journeys, medicine walks, ceremonies and individual sessions, Sófía invites people to explore what she calls natural spirituality — the understanding that our capacity for spiritual experience and relationship with the living world is a natural part of being human.
At the heart of her work is a wish to contribute to the re-enchantment of our world, cultivating ways of seeing and living that deepen our sense of belonging.
Helena Karhu
Helena is a North Karelian practitioner of shamanism, cultural researcher and keeper of traditional knowledge from Finland.
Her work is rooted in the animistic traditions, folklore and ancestral wisdom of the Northern cultural heritage.
She is the founder of House of the Bear (Karhun Talo), through which she shares traditional knowledge and shamanic practices, exploring their relevance to contemporary life, personal growth and community well-being.
Helena has undertaken doctoral research on Finnish shamanism at the University of Eastern Finland and is also involved in preserving and promoting shamanic and wisdom-keeper traditions through her cultural work.
Her great passion is helping people fall in love with the living world, rediscovering the wisdom of our ancestors and finding ways to bring these relationships into everyday life.
