About this Event
The Mill Gallery, Bramley is delighted to present Friends of Photography: A Community in Focus, a joyful and inclusive exhibition celebrating the work of a local photography collective that meets monthly in the gallery.
Running from 20 February to 27 March, the exhibition brings together photographers united not by a single style, subject, or piece of equipment, but by a shared love of taking photographs. The images on display celebrate curiosity, experimentation, and the simple pleasure of seeing the world through a lens.
The photographers represented range from first-time exhibitors to experienced hobbyists. Some work with mobile phones, others with DSLRs or mirrorless cameras, but all share the same spirit: learning from one another, swapping ideas, and enjoying photography in an open, supportive environment. The exhibition is rich and varied, where everyday moments sit alongside carefully composed scenes, and personal perspective is valued just as highly as technical skill.
Hosted by local photographer Paul Abraham, the Friends of Photography group is built on encouragement rather than competition. Speaking about the exhibition, Abraham says:
“As the group and the gallery go from strength to strength, this exhibition highlights that art in West Leeds is open to everyone, from any background or ability.”
The group began as a simple invitation to anyone who loves taking photos. Whether participants are snapping images on their phone, using professional equipment, or just starting out, the monthly meet-ups offer a relaxed and welcoming space for people aged 18+ to share work, pick up tips, and connect with others who enjoy photography in all its forms. There’s no pressure and no pretension — just good conversations, shared knowledge, and great photos.
Friends of Photography: A Community in Focus is a snapshot of that collective spirit: supportive, creative, and always evolving. Visitors are encouraged to look a little closer, linger a little longer, and maybe even feel inspired to pick up a camera themselves.
