About this Event
About the event:
Join Caroline Hekate and DJ Lenore for a movement and music-centered evening event open to all. We invite you to dress for fun, connect, and be mindful.
Dance Flow inspires creative presence in our bodies as we navigate music genres, challenge our movement connection, and dive into a liberating fusion.
Drum and bass (D&B) is a style of electronic dance music built on fast breakbeats and heavy sub-bass. It emerged out of the Caribbean-influenced UK rave scene in the 1990s, with samples and synths layered over its rhythm-driven core, making it a great example of experimental and fusion music.
The event will be loosely strutured into the following moments:
- Meet + Greet: Welcome to the space feel the energy of D&B around you.
- Dance + Music: Embrace your body's connection to the music and explore fusion cultures.
- Social Improvisation: Solo and interactive cues are offered to spark your exploration.
- Flow: Let loose, play, go wild. Be free and mindful.
- Wind Down: Mellow into softer, relaxing movement.
This event is part of the Friday Night Lights series and is held in Studio 7 on the ground floor of The Dance Complex. We offer a small beverage service and encourage you to take breaks whenever you'd like.
About Caroline Hekate - from Caroline!
I am an experimental artist, performer, and creative visionary from Cambridge, MA, of Honduran heritage.
I flow between worlds and disciplines: as a dancer, choreographer, visual illustrator, musician, and guide. My work is multidisciplinary, interdisciplinary, and transdisciplinary — because life desires to be more than one form.
“May the rhythm of our hearts inspire the mind to guide our creative soul.”
About Lenore:
Lenore co-founded Elements, a Thursday-night drum and bass weekly at Phoenix Landing in Boston that has run since January 1999 and is now in its 27th year. She fell into DJing by instinct after immersing herself in house and electronic music in the early ‘90s, playing her first set in Spain in 1994. A year later, crate-digging in Boston turned her toward jungle, which she’s stayed devoted to. As a resident since day one, her tight mixing and bold programming shaped the night’s identity, and elements has become one of the most respected dnb events in the US and abroad, booking local, national, and international acts. Beyond elements, she’s a steady presence in Boston and New England, known for genre-crossing sets that welcome newcomers into jungle.
