DATE/TIME: Tuesday 20th October 2026. 10:30am to 2pm
LEADER: Dave Gilbert
CONTACT: [email protected]
FACILITIES: Cafe, Toilets
DETAILS:
Park at Fremington Quay and walk along the Tarka Trail estuary to Home Farm marsh. High tide is around 2pm as the tide rises so waders and waterfowl should be pushed closer to the walkways.
The walk through the Marsh is 2 km in total and is well fenced with directional signposts but beware, you will need good footwear as the walk can get fairly muddy in places. There are several ponds/scrapes that should attract a good number of birds especially at high tide - some of these ponds are a fair way from the walkways to minimise the risk of disturbing the birds. It is therefore a good idea to use Binoculars or Telescope for a good
view of the birds.
A good day on the Pill can see significant numbers of Redshank, Greenshank, possibly Spotted Redshank and Glossy Ibis. On the river Oystercatcher, Curlew Grey Plover, Little Egret and Dunlin. Spoonbills can also be spotted during the cold winter months.
