About this Event
In this class we will take an explorative, free-form approach to music, movement and rhythm. Emphasizing the spontaneity and improvisation of Freestyle Hip Hop Dance while also incorporating foundational routines from many other modes of motion as a baseline to build upon. Combining some predictable structure with chaotic inventiveness is the name of the game!
We wish to foster a climate of co-creation, playfulness, and collaboration with dance in a community setting, open to trying new things on the fly and sharing idea’s and suggestion’s as we go. The intention is to nurture a space to be safely witnessed by one another flexing our inalienable right to freedom of expression! Potential activities may include dance conversation, movement mirroring, tribal dance circles, choreographed sequences, rhythm relay, and so much more! Who knows?...maybe even a Soul Train line if enough people are up for it! (*fingers crossed ^_^)
All ages and ability levels are welcome.
Demi is a local artist who does pop-up street performances of their freestyle dance forms in and around the city of Kingston. They have a background in African Dance, Bollywood, and Hip Hop stylistics merging with Qi Gong and Yoga practices to inform their approach. They are eager and excited to share some of the skills and techniques they have learned along their personal dance journey with the People’s Place Community!
