About this Event
Exhibition walkthrough and discussion with artist Dorothy I. Burge for her solo show Freedom Fighters at the Grand Army of the Republic Hall.
Dorothy I. Burge is a multimedia artist and community activist inspired by the history of, and ongoing struggle for, social justice. Born in Chicago, Burge is a descendent from a long line of quilters from Mississippi who created beautiful quilts from recycled clothing. Her realization that the history and culture of her people were being passed through generations of quilters inspired her to use the medium as a tool to teach history, raise cultural awareness, and inspire action. Burge is proud to note that she has three brothers who are veterans.
