Free “Be 2 Weeks Ready” Workshop (Oct 23rd & 24th, 2026)

Disasters can happen anywhere, at any time. When a disaster strikes, it could take days to weeks for first responders to reach you. That's why it's important to get prepared!

Neighbors Ready! offers free educational events, information, and opportunities to learn about easy ways you can prepare as a family and as a neighborhood. Our educational meetings cover topics such as building a go kit, storing water and supplies, constructing a simple sanitation system, establishing family emergency plans, and more.

Join us for a free, in-person workshop to learn how to help your neighbors, club, or other community group get prepared using the Be 2 Weeks Ready curriculum, a program developed by the Oregon Department of Emergency Management. Here are the details for this event:

• When: We'll be meeting over two days: Oct 23rd from 5:30 to 8:30 PM and Oct 24th from 9:00 to 4:00 PM. Attendance for both Oct 23rd and Oct 24th is necessary
• Where: Westbrook Community Clubhouse, 14255 SW 6th St, Beaverton, OR 97005
• This event is free and open to the public. Participants will receive a free Be 2 Weeks Ready Toolkit booklet, handouts, and other materials.
• Registration is required. Class size is limited to 35 people.
• We welcome adults and accompanied-minors, 11th grade and higher, with a parent or legal guardian at the event.
• Prerequisites: No previous experience necessary, except a willingness to learn to help yourself and your community get prepared. Previous experience in presenting, community organizing, or preparedness work is helpful, but not required.

What to Bring: Bring a water bottle, a notepad, and a pen or pencil. Neighbors Ready! will provide free snacks, water, and all course materials.

The mission of Neighbors Ready! is to create caring, connected and resilient neighborhoods. We are committed to making sure every neighbor is prepared and has the best chance of survival in the event of a disaster.

Info: We'll do a quick intro to Neighbors Ready! (NR) and Be 2 Weeks Ready (B2WR). Participants will create an emergency plan and do a hands-on game/exercise with Go Bags. We'll cover B2WR Units 1 & 2: Preparing to Prepare & Your Emergency Plan. We'll provide an overview of where to find information on www.NeighborsReady.org. Homework: Finish your emergency plan.

Info: Preparedness begins by thinking about what each person in your home might need and understanding the risks you might encounter. Then, you gather the supplies and know-how to create greater safety and resiliency in the event of a disaster. We'll cover the following preparedness topics through an interactive format following the Be 2 Weeks Ready curriculum: emergency food plans, water storage and purification, waste and hygiene, shelter plans, first aid, and emergency management. We'll also talk about how you can prepare with your neighborhood (PYN) to increase neighborhood cohesiveness and resiliency. We'll take a break in the middle for lunch.
