Our shelter is COMPLETELY FULL of wonderful pets to adopt! We need your help to get them all into forever homes.The Cathy Kangas Foundation is back to sponsor FREE THE SHELTER, the open-house adoption event where approved adopters adopt their new best friend with no adoption fees!
The best thing? All pets still get the standard adoption package, spay/neuter, 2 vaccinations, and a microchip before going home (pets do not go home same-day/ adoption screening and application still applies).
This will be our SECOND Free the Shelter in 2026. BAC, like many shelters in Connecticut, is facing a capacity crisis. Our good friends at the Cathy Kangas Foundation are here to help and offered to sponsor a second event!
Not only that, but there's TWO WAYS to participate in this special Fall Edition of Free the shelter.
OPTION 1- APPOINTMENTS: During the first week of November, scheduled adoption appointments will also be sponsored. If you have your eye on someone special, send in your application and schedule an appointment Monday the 2nd-Thursday the 5th and you'll still pay NO ADOPTION FEE for your new best friend.
OPTION 2- OPEN HOUSE: On Friday November 6th and Saturday November 7th, it's all-hands-on-deck for BAC from 10am-3pm as we welcome approved adopters to visit and meet and greet with all of our adoptables- no appointment needed*.
*adoption application and processing still applies. You may apply in-person same-day, or send application ahead of the event.
Just ask our many Free the Shelters alumni...they'll tell you that this event was a great way to discover, get to know, and adopt their new best friend!
