Look for the guide holding a red umbrella!
Shoreditch is more than trendy bars and vintage shops — it is a living canvas telling the story of immigration, poverty, protest, creativity, and gentrification. On this Free Street Art Walking Tour of Shoreditch, we uncover how art on the streets reflects the people who have lived, worked, and struggled here for generations.

Beginning outside Shoreditch High Street Station, this guided walking tour explores the evolution of street art alongside the social history of Brick Lane and Spitalfields. From early forms of public art and graffiti to today’s globally recognised murals, you’ll see how Shoreditch became one of the most important street art destinations in the world.

Street art isn’t created in a vacuum. As we walk, we explore how immigration shaped the area, from Huguenot silk weavers and Jewish refugees to the Bangladeshi community that gave Brick Lane its modern identity. We examine how these communities influenced the culture, politics, and visual language that still defines the neighbourhood.

You’ll learn how Shoreditch went from industrial decline and extreme poverty — once associated with the victims of Jack the Ripper — to rapid regeneration and gentrification over the last 30 years. We discuss what has been gained, what has been lost, and how street art often responds to displacement, inequality, and rising rents.

The tour showcases a wide variety of street art styles including large-scale murals, stencils, wheat-paste posters, sculptures, tags, and 3D installations, featuring works by internationally recognised artists such as:

  • Banksy
  • Shepard Fairey
  • Roa
  • Fanakapan
  • Mr Cenz
  • Otto Schade
  • Zabou
  • Dreph
  • Dale Grimshaw

We also visit and discuss major local landmarks including Brick Lane, Spitalfields Market, the Old Truman Brewery, and the site of the Battle of Cable Street, a defining moment of anti-fascist resistance in London’s history.

This free Shoreditch street art tour ends near the Old Truman Brewery, surrounded by ever-changing murals and creative spaces. Ideal for art lovers, photographers, students, culture enthusiasts, and curious travellers looking to understand both the art and the people behind it.

Book now and discover why Shoreditch is the beating heart of London’s street art scene.

The tour operates on a ‘pay what you think it’s worth’ basis. There is no booking fee and no payment is required to join, so that it is accessible to every budget. However our guides are all freelancers who work for tips, so if you enjoy the tour, you are welcome to make a donation at the end. The value is up to you, whatever fits in with you budget and your levels of enjoyment.
