About this Event

As part of the "Lights, Camera, Ñ" film series by the Grupo Informal del Círculo Ñ, we are proud to present They Call Me The Panzer, an emotional film inspired by the life of Rommel Fernández Gutiérrez, an immortal legend of Panamanian football.

This screening pays tribute to his legacy of hard work, dignity, and dreams — a deeply Panamanian story that continues to inspire generations both inside and outside the country.

The event takes on special meaning this historic year, as Panama prepares to compete in the FIFA 2026 World Cup as the only Central American team to qualify. All the more reason to celebrate, through cinema, the greatness of a name that lives forever: Rommel Fernández.

Event Photos

They Call Me The Panzer is a film inspired by the life of footballer Rommel Fernández Gutiérrez.

Panama, 1986. At 17 years old, Rommel, whom everyone nicknames “Big Head,” walks through the streets kicking an empty milk carton, daydreaming about playing soccer. But Mélida, his mother, pressures him to find a job, while he also helps care for his sister Jackeline as she struggles to make a living selling fritters on the streets of El Chorrillo. With the youth league approaching, Rommel pushes himself to the limit for a place on the Pampers team. From being called “Big Head,” he will go on to become the “Panzer” of football, of his family, and of everyone around him. A film inspired by the life of Rommel Fernández Gutiérrez, the great legend of Panamanian and Tenerife football.
