This 2hr class introduces you to replacing and patching punctured inner tubes. It’s open to anyone who lives, works or studies in Hounslow.About this Event
Please be sure to read this class overview in full before booking your place.
Set within the beautiful grounds of historic Osterley Park in a dedicated study room, this is a hands-on class for people who want to learn how to replace and repair punctured inner tubes and carry out basic safety checks on their bike. The session also seals with keeping your bike clean and oiled. The class is run by Hounslow council, taught by a mechanic from Back In The Saddle Bikes and is FREE for anyone who lives, works or studies in the borough thanks to funding provided by the council (the £5 ticket price is refunded at the end of the class as cash).
Don’t let punctures become the bane of your life on two wheels! In this class a mechanic from Back In The Saddle Bikes will show you how to remove a wheel from a bike frame or fork and take off the tyre and punctured tube, before replacing the tube and refitting the tyre and wheel. They’ll also cover how to fix puntures (so you can reuse your tubes rather than having to replace them) as well as a brief, pre-ride safety check and basic weekly/monthly maintenance/cleaning.
PLEASE NOTE: tubeless and tubular tyres are not covered in this class.
This is a hands-on class, so you'll be carrying out the work yourself on one of our demonstrator bikes as part of a small group, since we find this is a much more effective way of teaching than just watching a mechanic going through the repairs. Tools and gloves will be provided by us, though if you'd prefer to use your own toolkit where possible, that's also fine.
PLEASE ARRIVE AT THE STABLES CAFE IN FRONT OF THE CLOCK TOWER 15 MINUTES BEFORE THE CLASS STARTS.
