A full-body pole walking workout is a scientifically proven activity that delivers core strengthening benefits while burning more calories
Welcome to fitness without borders! Pole walking, also known as Nordic walking or urban poling, is cross-country skiing without skis. It was developed by Olympic fitness trainers to help athletes stay in shape during the months they couldn’t ski. Because it is easy to learn, provided numerous health benefits, and is a fun way to exercise while exploring the great outdoors, it became popular throughout Europe and the US. It is a full body work out that uses 90% of your muscles. Exercise anytime, anywhere. Poles are like having a portable elliptical machine and can provide a flexible, low-cost way for busy people to stay healthy and connected. You will learn about the differences between hiking poles and Urban Poles, which can also be used for hiking, and have superior fitness benefits since they were designed by an Occupational Therapist for maximum core engagement. Walking one mile with Urban Poles is equal to 1000 abdominal contractions!
Get Ready
You can either bring your own poles* or you can rent them through Eventbrite**.
Either way, please send an email to [email protected] with the date you want to attend and if you want to rent poles. I will confirm your attendance and send additional information back to you including a liability waiver which I ask you to sign and return BEFORE the event.
*DISCLAIMER: There are many types of poles and techniques for each pole type. I am certified for instructing Urban Poling's Activator and Urban Poles (2 different pole types and 2 different polling techniques). The Nordic walking technique I teach for this outdoor event is for Urban Poles only.
**Pole Rental: Poles can be rented for this event. The rental fee is $25 plus tax and handling fee ($30.52 charged at Eventbrite check out). If you wish to purchase the poles after the event, your rental fee ($25) will be deducted from the purchase price.
