About this Event
The lion’s coming to Tower Bridge.
To welcome in the Year of the Goat, we’re bringing a traditional lion dance to Tower Bridge Collective. It’s free, it’s loud, and it’s one of the best ways we know to celebrate the new year together.
Grab a seat, get some food and settle in. The lion opens with its set routine: leaping, rearing up, blinking, shaking its mane, all in time with live drums & cymbalists.
Then it comes down to join you. It winds between the tables, stops to size people up, and wanders off to see what everyone’s eating. You might get a curious nudge, or it might give you a good long stare. Tradition says a visit from the lion brings luck for the year ahead, so if it heads your way, take that as a good sign.
When the drums go quiet, the lion stays for photos. It’s your chance to get a picture together and start the Year of the Goat with something worth posting.
Food and drink are on throughout, from our 13 independent food partners and two bars. Get something warm, raise a glass to the new year, and stick around as long as you like.
Why a lion dance?
The lion dance is a centuries-old tradition, performed to chase away bad luck and bring good fortune and prosperity for the year ahead. The drums and cymbals aren’t just for atmosphere. They’re part of the blessing.
