The Master Gardeners of Hamilton County (MGHC), in association with the University of Tennessee Extension, continue their monthly series of 3rd Saturday Free Gardening Classes on Saturday, October 17 at 10:00 a.m., with “Fighting Invasive Plants” presented by Master Gardener and Certified Pesticide Applicator, Don McKenzie. MGHC’s 3rd Saturday Free Gardening Classes take place at the UT-TSU Hamilton County Extension Center, 6183 Adamson Circle, off Bonny Oaks Drive in Chattanooga. The public is requested to register to attend at: https://mghc.org/calendar/3rd-saturday-class-fighting-invasive-plants/.
MGHC Education Chair Debbie Bauder comments, “Don McKenzie will help us conquer our "fear of the unknown," by explaining, demystifying and simplifying the use of herbicides as an indispensable tool for controlling invasive plants. His passion for helping others learn to eliminate invasive plants motivated Don to become a Certified Pesticide Applicator in Tennessee. Don brings these experiences and lessons to help us act more effectively to tackle the many invasive plants that are threatening our yards, gardens, and natural spaces in southeast Tennessee. In his presentation, he will address herbicide safety concerns; provide a basic overview of the many types of herbicides; then focus on glyphosate as the overall safest, most versatile, and most effective herbicide for treating invasives. He will conclude by providing several how-to examples for handling different invasive problems."
