About this Event
Join us in person this February to learn practical tools to help sober clients and their partners rediscover intimacy with clarity, confidence, and a lot less shame.
Free February CEU: Without the Liquid Courage: Helping Sober Clients Rebuild Intimacy and Connection
For many people in recovery, alcohol and other substances were woven into dating, desire, and closeness: the liquid courage before a first kiss, the buffer during conflict, the way to quiet old wounds. Without them, intimacy can suddenly feel awkward, exposed, or even frightening. This practical discussion helps clinicians guide sober clients, individually and as couples, through that shift. We will explore the biological changes that affect desire and arousal in sobriety, how shame and trauma surface when clients reengage without a buffer, and how narrative therapy can help clients rewrite the stories they hold about who they were "before" and who they are becoming. Participants will leave with tangible practices they can use the next day to help clients build connections that feel safe, present, and real.
