The State of Hawaii Department of Health - Food Safety Branch offers a FREE 3-hour certification class on safe food handling practices. The Food Handler Certification is earned by attending and the class and passing the test that follows at the end of the class. This certification will meet the 2017 requirement** of Chapter 50 Food Safety Code. The class will introduce basic food safety and good retail practices to help reduce foodborne illness risk factors.
** 11-50-20c. Food Protection Certification.
(1) The person-in-charge shall demonstrate knowledge of basic food safety by successfully completing a food safety course that is part of a department food safety program or other program approved by the department.
Per the ending of the mask mandate on Mar. 26, mask use will be optional in the classroom. Please bring a pen or pencil to take notes and to take the exam at the end of the class.
Doors will be open approx. 30 min prior to class start times; PLEASE SHOW UP EARLY - NO LATE ENTRY WILL BE ALLOWED! If the door to the classroom is closed, you are too late and will need to sign up for another class.
Please park in the large parking lot on the left after entering the gate to the EHSD campus. Do not park in front of the Department of Agriculture - Animal Industry Division building or between the Department of Health - Environmental Health buildings.
If you are signing up for multiple tickets at a time, please remember to add in the first and last names of all attendees on the order form or you can email me with the first and last names of all additional attendees as soon as you can prior to the date of the class.
