About this Event

Learn the timeless art of home canning and build skills you can use for years to come!

Join Culture for Change Foundation for Canning 101, a five-week hands-on program taught by Pachina Waite. Participants will learn the fundamentals of food preservation, safe canning practices, and practical skills for becoming more confident and self-reliant in the kitchen.

Each week builds on the series, giving participants an opportunity to learn, practice, ask questions, and gain hands-on experience.

No prior canning experience is needed!


What You’ll Learn

• Safe home canning practices
• Food self-reliance and preservation skills
• Water-bath canning techniques
• Canning considerations for high-acid and non-acidic foods
• Proper food preparation and preservation techniques
• Preparing jars, lids, and equipment
• Following recipes and proper processing methods
• Practical skills you can continue using at home

By the end of the five-week series, our goal is for participants to leave with:

• Greater confidence in home food preservation
• Hands-on canning experience

Pachina is an experienced home canning educator with a passion for cultural education, practical life skills, and food self-reliance.

Class Size

Limited to 15 participants.

Keeping the class small allows for more hands-on learning, questions, and individual attention.


Who Is This Class For?

Beginners are absolutely welcome! This program is designed for community members interested in learning practical food preservation and self-reliance skills.

No prior canning experience is necessary.


Supplies & Materials

Canning tools and materials used during the program will be provided as appropriate for each lesson.

Participants will receive information about anything they may need to bring for a particular class.

Come ready to learn, participate, and have fun!


IMPORTANT: Register Only Once

This is a continuing 5-week program.

REGISTER ONLY ONCE to reserve your seat for the entire series. You do not need to register separately for each Wednesday.

Because capacity is limited to only 15 participants, please register only if you intend to participate in the series. Reserving a spot and not attending prevents another community member from having the opportunity to participate.

The program does not have a traditional class fee; however, a donation is required to reserve your spot.
