About this Event
FREE AFTER-SCHOOL ART LAB
Explore great artists. Try new techniques. Create something completely your own.
Looking for a creative after-school activity that doesn’t require another big weekly commitment?
Join Hermosa Beach Friends of the Library for our FREE After-School Art Lab, a drop-in creative experience for kids in grades K–5.
Led by artist Viv York, MFA, UCLA, kids will discover great artists, children’s books and creative ideas—then experiment with different techniques to make original art of their own.
Each Tuesday brings a different art adventure, so kids can come once, join us for the theme that catches their imagination, or come back each week to try something completely new.

A NEW ART ADVENTURE EACH TUESDAY
Tuesday 9/22/26 — HIDDEN CLUES Can you make art that keeps a secret? Explore how artists use mystery, unexpected objects and hidden details—then create an original artwork with a clue for others to discover.
Tuesday 9/29/26 — PLAYING WITH TIME What would time look like if you could draw it? Explore starry skies, surreal clocks and the ways artists imagine time—then create your own visual journey through past, present or future.
Tuesday 10/6/26 — IMAGINARY WORLDS What if an ordinary place became somewhere extraordinary? See how artists transform familiar environments, then reinvent a place you know into a world completely your own.
Tuesday 10/13/26 — COMIC CHAOS What happens when one little thing sets off a whole chain of events?Explore action, storytelling and comic-inspired art, then create your own sequence where one thing leads unexpectedly—or hilariously—to another.
Each workshop stands on its own. No previous workshop required. Come once or come every Tuesday!
