Just in time for Halloween, All Souls and All Saints Day: a program of intense, lively, and scary music. Tomasi’sCinq Danses profanes et sacrées (five dances, sacred and proface) and l’apprenti sorcier (the Sorcerer’s Apprentice) set the mood. The dance-like and chaotic Quintette No. 1 by Francaix is matched by Finnish composer Kalevi Aho’s own Quintet No. 1, which features searing intensity and immense technical demands. Plus, a fast, driving movement by Canadian John Estacio that has its own spooky sound.Programme
