About this Event
Our usual warm get-together on the evening before our annual National Urban Design Conference, but this time we’re giving a variety of speakers four minutes to share an idea that could change the way we think about our cities.
Expect quick, thought-provoking talks on something each speaker believes the urban design community should know about. It could be an idea, a challenge, a lesson, a provocation or a different way of seeing our places.
There will also be an interactive panel discussion on the M8, one of Glasgow’s most iconic and divisive pieces of infrastructure. Recent engagement around the Woodside Viaduct has raised, for the first time, the prospect of a future without it, prompting a bigger question: what role should the M8 play in Glasgow’s future?
You don't need to be part of the conference! We welcome everyone: architects, engineers, historians, planners, surveyors, landscape architects, researchers, students and anyone interested in making better places. .
Your ticket includes one free drink!

19.30 - 20:00 City Making at the Urban Design Group Conference with Macreanor Lavington
The M8 remains both heroic and divisive, while recent engagement around the Woodside Viaduct has, for the first time, raised the prospect of a future without it.
This interactive discussion asks how we might move from infrastructure that divides to infrastructure that connects us. It explores the M8’s contested role in Glasgow and the alternative futures it could help shape.
A series of panellists will offer short provocations, drawing on different perspectives and exploring opportunities for a more inclusive, people-centred approach to infrastructure.
