About this Event
Our Kitchen Stories series returns to Piccadilly for another delicious instalment, as we welcome food historian, writer and researcher Ben Mervis to share tales from his fascinating career in food and celebrate the arrival of his new book, The Festive Baker: A Cookbook (Phaidon).
Born in America and now based in Scotland, Ben’s fascination with food has taken him from working at Copenhagen’s world-renowned noma to founding Fare, a magazine exploring cities through food, culture and community. He is also the author of The British Cookbook and has worked as Lead Researcher on Netflix’s Chef’s Table, while consulting with Michelin-starred chefs and celebrated food festivals across Europe.
A delicious journey through celebrations around the world, The Festive Baker gathers more than 170 sweet and savoury recipes spanning over 50 festivities and traditions. From Christmas stollen and Thanksgiving pumpkin pie to Eid cookies and Lunar New Year mooncakes, each bake comes with its own story. Thoroughly researched by Ben, with contributions from more than 80 bakers worldwide, it’s a joyful celebration of the many ways we mark an occasion with something good to eat.
Join us at Piccadilly for an evening of fascinating food stories, global traditions and, naturally, plenty of talk about baking. Book your ticket and settle in as Ben takes us from the kitchens of noma to celebratory tables around the world.
A welcome drink and selection of snacks will be available to enjoy on arrival.
