Celebrating its 35th season the Myra Foundation Presents: Concerts in the Galleries will host Formosa Quartet on Sunday, February 21, 2027. Winners of the First Prize and Amadeus Prize at the Wigmore Hall International String Quartet Competition, the FORMOSA QUARTET uses the string quartet as a vehicle for advocacy, storytelling, and innovation. The Museum has excellent acoustics for this kind of intimate performance, and concerts are always followed by a free wine and cheese reception where audience members have a chance to meet the visiting musicians. The Formosa’s critically acclaimed performances at venues including the Library of Congress, the Chicago Cultural Center, the Walter Reade Theater at Lincoln Center, the National Concert Hall in Taipei, and the Kammermusiksaal at the Berliner Philharmonie have forged uncharted musical terrain that are “spellbinding” (The Strad), “remarkably fine” (Gramophone), and “go beyond the beautiful and into the territory of unexpectedly thrilling… like shots of pure espresso” (MUSO Magazine).
Some of the strongest media quotes for the Formosa Quartet are:
“Spellbinding virtuosity.” —BBC Music Magazine
“Remarkably fine.” —Gramophone
“Just gorgeous, perfect really.” —BBC Record Review
“Beyond the beautiful and into the territory of unexpectedly thrilling.” —MUSO Magazine
“A marvelously elegant performance full of youthful freshness and exuberance… spellbinding virtuosity.” —The Strad
“It’s hard to imagine more persuasive advocates for his chamber works than the Formosa Quartet.” —The Strad
The season of chamber music by nationally and internally known musicians is the only series of its kind in the Grand Forks area. Chamber music can include both vocal and instrumental music played by a small ensemble with only one player to a part. Although it is often associated with string quartets, nearly any instrument and music from any musical period including modern and contemporary, can be found on a chamber music concert program.
All concerts are held on Sunday afternoons at 2 pm in the Museum galleries. Tickets range from $10 to $35. Discounted season tickets are also available. Museum members receive discounted tickets and children 12 and under are free, as are students from 12-18 who play in their school orchestra or band. Seating is limited and guests are encouraged to buy their tickets in advance and come early for the best seats. Tickets available at ndmoa.com or by calling 701-777-4195.
