About this Event
Forest Bathing
If you've never been Forest Bathing before, you're in for a treat.
Forest Bathing, despite its name, has nothing to do with swimming. The expression comes from the Japanese phrase "Shinrin-yoku" which means immersion or basking in a forest setting.
Forest Bathing is a slow, mindful meandering walk exploring natural surroundings, in a mixed woodland setting. You will be offered invitations, ways to help you connect with nature, through your senses, memory, and imagination.
This is an opportunity to have a break from the fast pace of life and slowly sink into your surroundings, letting nature support you.
What to expect on the day:
Slow walking and meandering through the wood, with plenty of opportunities to pause and investigate your surroundings. Your Forest Bathing guide, Anna, will be offering various invitations to experience different aspects of nature and the beautiful woodland.
Meeting time: 11 am
Weather:
This walk will still take place in rainy weather, so please ensure you have adequate clothing and footwear for these conditions. Woods can be cooler than the surrounding area so please bring extra layers in case.
Fitness:
There may be steps, slopes, uneven ground, places where you need to stoop. The terrain for this particular session is not wheelchair accessible unfortunately. Please ask about sessions specifically designed for participants with low energy or reduced mobility.
Toilets:
There are no guaranteed toilets at this location, so please ensure you go beforehand. Toilets nearby - there are toilets situated at the main Killerton car park at Killerton House about 5 minutes drive from the Caddihoe site.
Travel and parking: Once your booking has been accepted you will be sent detailed instructions on how to get there. Parking is available at the site.
What to bring with you:
Please bring water and if you wish please do bring a snack to keep you going. We will aim to finish about 1:30 - 1.45 pm, and some people may be hungry by then. Please bring something to sit on, (a black bin bag is a good stand-by) as you may be invited to rest on the ground. Please bring warm clothes or a blanket to wrap yourself in if the weather is cold.
Please arrive promptly as there are consent forms to sign beforehand and your guide will talk through the risk assessment for the day, to ensure everyone's safety while we are on the site and in the woods.
General safety:
We make every effort to ensure everyone stays safe during the Forest Bathing walk, however this is nature and the unexpected can always happen. Please be aware of this when booking to attend.
Please only make a booking if you will definitely be coming, as otherwise you may prevent someone else from attending.
This session is offered FREE, (Donations are welcomed) and by booking you agree to take care of yourself and your belongings at all times. Please do your due diligence in deciding whether this Forest Bathing Experience is right for you. Any questions please contact [email protected].
Terms and Conditions for Forest Bathing sessions
Before you book: the key points
Clothing and Equipment
Please note: you may get cold even in summer! Please wear long trousers and tops with sleeves and walking shoes or similar with good grip and ankle support ideally waterproof. Your body temperature can significantly reduce as we move slowly in the forest during Forest Bathing walks and stop regularly so bring extra layers of clothing and a coat. Please also bring water and sun protection if required, and any food or medications you might need. There will be a guided meditation so also bring a waterproof rug (a large bin bag will do) or a foldable chair if being on the ground will not be suitable for you.
Your guide reserves the right to refuse participation in the session if you are not wearing appropriate clothing. This is for your own safety.
Weather
We run Forest Bathing sessions in all weathers, with the exception of high winds or extreme cold. There are additional benefits of doing a session in wet weather (all will be revealed by your guide) and often the tree canopy can give a certain protection.
If the session is cancelled we aim to give you as much advance notice as possible and rebook the session on an alternative day.
Possible risks
Forest Bathing involves breathing and moving slowly through a wooded area, standing and sitting/lying. Potential physical risks of doing Forest Bathing are associated with the walking and breathing exercises, and certain natural hazards (e.g. roots, branches).
Forest Bathing can be an emotional activity; you may find that certain emotions surface during the exercises. For example, your understanding of yourself or your relationship with the environment. This is a normal reaction to have in a natural environment.
