About this Event
About the book:
This is a bilingual novel (Italian/English) by Marina Vitullo detailing aspects of her family's history. Her grandfather emigrated to New York at the beginning of the last century and then returned to live in Italy. The family did not know much of what happened to her grandfather in America and the author undertakes a journey to New York to solve the mystery surrounding her grandfather's American experience.
This is what the author wrote on the cover:
An empty envelope and an old-time photo seal a mysterious relationship between Michele and some unknown individuals in New York. These are the two tools that compel his son Alberto to reopen the drawer of memory and push Marina to follow the traces left by her grandfather while living in New York. The novel of Michele’s life, Alberto’s memoir, and Marina’s mystery are the narrative lines that intertwine in this text. Although they are conducted on very distant temporal and spatial planes, they are all inseparable because together they contribute to the reconstruction of this family’s history, against the backdrop of Italian history from the late 19th century to the post-World War II period.
Ticket price includes admission to the Museum's current exhibitions, "Nuvolari – Comeback New York: An immersive exhibition celebrating the life of Tazio Nuvolari on the 90th Anniversary of his victory in the Vanderbilt Cup on Columbus Day, October 12, 1936”, "Sicilian Theater in Little Italy: The Return of the Manteo Puppets" and "Goodnight, Maria: A Tribute to all the women who worked tirelessly in the garment industry to live the American dream".
