Travel back thousands of years to discover the remarkable story of the first people who called the Fox River Valley home. Join local historian and author Philip A. Aleo for an engaging one-hour journey through the region's Native American heritage, from the earliest Paleo-Indians who arrived after the last Ice Age to the Archaic and Woodland cultures, and finally the Ho-Chunk, Meskwaki (Fox), Sauk, and Potawatomi tribes who lived throughout northern Illinois before European settlement.Through archaeological discoveries, historic maps, photographs, and compelling stories, you'll explore how these Native peoples hunted, farmed, traded, traveled, and adapted to a changing landscape over thousands of years. Learn how their traditions shaped the history of the Fox River Valley and why their legacy remains an important part of our community today.
