Artist Bio
Follia 4 is a London-based recorder ensemble dedicated to expanding the recorder’s role in contemporary music. Through innovative, accessible performances, the ensemble aims to connect with audiences and showcase the instrument’s expressive potential in new and exciting ways.
The ensemble comprises Lizzie Knatt, Otto Hashmi, Hannah Parry, and Rowena Jones.
In April 2026, Follia 4 premiered bellyfull of glowsong for recorder quartet and fixed electronics by composer Thomas Shorthouse at the annual festival of the Society of Recorder Players. The work transforms fragments of a Yorkshire folk song into an intensely cyclical, mesmeric, chant-like texture. As Shorthouse writes, “bellyfull of glowsong reflects on the importance of the communal musical experience, its almost magical ability to bring people together and sustain musical traditions.”
