Flow State Session 2 – Breathwork with Micah Tasaka
This is a beginner-friendly writing workshop focused on breaking through creative blocks and accessing the “flow state.” Attendees will learn how to use their breath to access the flow state. They will then practice different breathwork tactics to create at least 2 poems.
Do you ever get stuck when writing? Flow State is a 4-part workshop series that focuses on meditation and somatic practices that support writers in accessing the “flow state” (the space from which artists create freely) and breaking through creative blocks. By tapping into the body’s wisdom, this workshop asks writers to examine their own writing practices and the source of their creative blocks while introducing somatic tactics they can use whenever they feel stuck.perience needed - all skill levels are welcome.

FAQ: ( what do people ask you most about your workshop)
1.If I miss one workshop, can I attend the next one?
Yes! These workshops can be taken independently or altogether in any order. If you miss one workshop in the series, no worries! Come to the next one.
2.What should I bring?
Journals and pens will be provided. Bring some water to drink because we will be moving energy through the body, and water helps the flow.
3.What if I’m not into stretching/yoga?
That’s okay! While this isn’t a yoga class, we will be doing some beginner friendly movements and stretches. If you’re not feeling particularly flexible, that’s okay, too. These workshops are designed to meet attendees where they are in a no shame environment.
4.I cannot meditate. Am I still allowed to come?
Yes! We’ll go through the basics of meditation for beginners, and attendees of all experiences and levels of practice are welcome.
5.I’m not a poet, but I’m interested. Can I still attend?
Absolutely! While the class is designed around poetry, writers of all backgrounds and genres are welcome. All prompts can be expanded into any writing genre, and if you want to draw to the prompts instead of write, that’s completely fine, too! The purpose is to get folks creating in whichever medium they’d like, so feel free to be as expansive as you wish.
Who the workshop is for: The Flow State Workshop Series is for writers and creatives who feel like they regularly encounter creative blocks. Each week, we’ll be practicing different somatic techniques to find where creative blocks live within the body and how to break through. By analyzing and dissecting examples from contemporary poetry, we’ll be discussing, moving, and writing together to enter the flow state.
