THE ARTISTS -- MAY 5, 2024
Julie Galle "Julie Moon" has performed and choreographed flamenco dance for the Atlanta Opera, Georgia State University’s School of Music, The Latin American Association, Gateway Performance Productions, Coves Darden P.R.E., Visa, and at universities and museums from the Southeast to the Midwest. She is a member of the faculty of Emory University’s Dance Program, where she teaches flamenco as part of the university curriculum. Julie is a former instructor of the Atlanta Ballet, and currently tours her original shows for kids “Ferdinand por farruca” and "Mapping Flamenco."
Marilia Quevedo has enjoyed a career as a professional flamenco dancer, after training with the masters of the art form in Spain and across South America. In her home of Argentina and nearby Uruguay, she has performed for the past two decades in renowned flamenco tablaos and theaters, in major universities and at Instituto Ibero, dedicated to the arts of Spain in the Americas. She currently resides near Miami and performs regularly across the U.S.A.
Cristian Puig is a flamenco guitarist, composer, and singer with Roma roots in Jerez de la Frontera, Spain. He is an accomplished musician with a string of artistic successes in film, in the recording studio, and live on stage. He played the role of guitarist and singer “Joaquin” in the Alliance Theatre’s 2013 production of “Zorro”, and he has worked in films, such as “A Late Quartet”, for which he composed flamenco music for the soundtrack. He performs as a flamenco singer and guitarist across the United States of American and in his home base of Miami. Cristian was born in Buenos Aires, Argentina.
Berdolé
All three artists are associated with Berdolé -- a management and production company that creates live flamenco programming for performance, as well as outreach for audiences of all ages. Works focus on the traditional elements of flamenco together: guitar, song, dance, and rhythmic hand clapping. Live concerts feature some of the top professionals in flamenco in Spain and the United States of America, as well as local artists in Atlanta. Berdolé translates to velero in Spanish, which means ship – or airplane – in English. The name Berdolé fuses cultures through time, considering that seafaring vessels first connected the Americas with Spain and every Atlantic crossing forever changes flamenco.
DONATIONS WELCOMED
SAMHRADH LINN -- “Welcome to Summer” in the Irish language
This performance event celebrates the beginning of summer -- as measured by the ancient nature-based agricultural calendar known to farmers and gardners -- called “Bealtaine” in Irish, which translates as “Mouth of the Fires”, often celebrated on May 1st.
Please visit Gateway’s 10 foot hand carved wooden totemic outdoor art installation -- Faces of the Moon -- on the grounds of the Little 5 Points Community Center -- created by Michael Hickey, Walter Stark and Sandra Hughes. Part Two of this installation is in progress and will visually map the seasons.
