Flags on Broughton – Flag Hanging EveningJoin us for a special evening as we prepare Broughton Street for Veterans Day by hanging the American flags that honor our nation's veterans.
The evening begins at W. Broughton Street, near Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard, and continues east to Price Street.
For the safety of the volunteers and city staff involved in hanging the flags, the Savannah Police Department will temporarily close sections of Broughton Street as the work progresses.
The community is warmly invited to participate as volunteers or simply come out and witness this meaningful tradition.
We ask everyone to remember that these are not ordinary American flags. Each flag was lovingly donated by a veteran's family and once draped the casket of their loved-one during their military funeral. Every flag represents a life of service, a family's sacrifice, and a hero who deserves to be remembered.
Whether you are helping hang the flags or watching from the sidewalk, we ask that you approach the evening with the dignity and respect these veterans and their families deserve.
