During this 1 day course we will explore how our ancestors and indigenous tribes have prepared animal skins to turn them into functional leather. The focus of this course is to develop your understanding of tanning processes including bark tanning, working at each stage of the process to see how leather is made. Working with tanned skins that you will soften before making those skins into a pouch.
Part of this course will also include fibre craft, making use of different natural fibres that can be used to stitch your leather pouch. Bone carving will also be a part of this course in order to produce buttons and toggles.
By the end of the day students should expect to go home with a lovely tanned salmon skin pouch and a solid foundation of knowledge regarding hide tanning.
