About this Event
There’s a first time—and a story—for everything.
Your first job. Your first heartbreak. The first time you stood up for yourself. The first time you realized the grown-ups were making it up, too.
Some firsts change everything. Others leave us with a lesson, a little embarrassment, or a story we’re still telling years later.
This January, join Lore Storytelling for “Firsts,” a four-week course where you’ll discover, shape, and practice sharing a true story from your life.
Maybe you already know which story you want to tell. Maybe you’re thinking, “Nothing interesting has ever happened to me.” Either way, we’ll help you recognize the moments that matter and bring them to life.
New year. Your story. A room full of possibility.
Over four weeks, you’ll learn how to:
- Find a personal story connected to the theme “Firsts.”
- Give your story a clear beginning, middle, and ending.
- Use details that help an audience see, feel, and connect with your experience.
- Discover what your story means and why you want to share it.
- Tell your story with more confidence and in your own voice.
You’ll receive Lore’s storytelling curriculum, coaching, and constructive feedback as your story develops. You’ll also get to know your classmates through their stories, with plenty of room for laughter, reflection, and unexpected connection.
The experience culminates in a live graduation showcase, where you’ll have the opportunity to share the story you’ve developed with an audience.
Who is this class for?
The curious. The creative. The person looking for something meaningful to do this winter. Anyone who wants to feel more comfortable speaking, meet new people, or finally tell that story.
No writing, performance, or public speaking experience is required. You don’t need an extraordinary life or a perfectly polished story. Bring your curiosity and a willingness to give it a try.
What counts as a “first”?
Your story could explore:
- A first date that went wonderfully or hilariously wrong.
- Your first taste of freedom.
- The first time you felt you belonged.
- A first attempt that didn’t go according to plan.
- Your first experience with a new place, role, or identity.
- The first time you chose yourself.
Your story can be funny, tender, surprising, joyful, or a little messy. You choose what you’re comfortable sharing.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Do I need to arrive with a story already written?
No! Bring a few memories or ideas, and we’ll help you choose and develop a story throughout the course.
Do I have to be a writer or performer?
No experience is necessary. Lore will guide you through shaping and telling your story, one step at a time.
Does my story have to be serious or deeply personal?
No. Everyday experiences can make wonderful stories. You decide what you’re comfortable sharing, whether it’s funny, meaningful, surprising, or all three.
Will I need to work on my story between classes?
Yes. Plan to spend time reflecting, developing, and practicing your story between sessions so you can make the most of the coaching and feedback.
Should I attend all four sessions?
Please plan to attend all four. Each session builds on the previous week, giving you time to develop your story and practice sharing it.
Can I sign up with a friend?
Absolutely! Come with someone you know or come ready to meet new people.
